Locomotive History

No. 6880 “Betton Grange” represents the rebirth of the Great Western Railway’s missing link — the Grange Class. Originally designed by Charles Collett and built between 1936 and 1939, the Grange Class was intended to replace aging 4300 Class Moguls for mixed-traffic duties. Despite their success, none of the original 80 Granges survived into preservation.

Thanks to the dedication of the Betton Grange Society, No. 6880 has been painstakingly constructed from original GWR parts and newly built components, becoming the first new Grange to steam in preservation. This remarkable locomotive brings to life what many thought lost forever, recreating the sight and sound of GWR mixed-traffic power for future generations.

Relive this golden moment in steam preservation history with a beautiful sunset scene that’s perfect for printing, gifting, or enjoying as a digital display.
