Locomotive History
No. 6880 “Betton Grange” is a true testament to the dedication of modern steam preservation. Originally designed by Charles Collett and built between 1936 and 1939, the Grange Class filled the need for powerful, mixed-traffic locomotives capable of hauling both passenger and freight trains across the Great Western Railway network.
Sadly, all 80 original Grange locomotives were scrapped by the end of the steam era, but thanks to the Betton Grange Society, this missing link has been reborn. Constructed using genuine GWR components and newly fabricated parts, 6880 is the first new Grange to steam in preservation, keeping alive the spirit of GWR engineering for new generations to admire.
Bring home this iconic image of “Betton Grange” in action on one of Britain’s most picturesque preserved railways — perfect for printing, gifting, or displaying digitally.
