No. 32424 “Beachy Head” is a faithful recreation of the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway H2 Atlantic Class, originally designed by D.E. Marsh and built at Brighton Works in 1911. These elegant 4-4-2 Atlantics were once the pride of the LB&SCR, handling express passenger trains along the South Coast and earning a reputation for speed and reliability.
The last original H2 Atlantic was scrapped in 1958, but thanks to the dedication and vision of the Bluebell Railway Atlantic Group, “Beachy Head” has been painstakingly rebuilt using original components and new fabrication, returning this long-lost class to steam. Today, “Beachy Head” is one of the Bluebell Railway’s most celebrated locomotives, hauling beautifully restored vintage trains through the Sussex countryside just as her predecessors did over a century ago.
