About No. 2999 “Lady of Legend”

No. 2999 “Lady of Legend” is a remarkable modern recreation of the Great Western Railway Saint Class, first designed by George Jackson Churchward in the early 1900s. The original Saints were the forerunners of many later GWR designs, influencing the legendary Hall and Grange classes.

Rebuilt at Didcot Railway Centre using the frames of a 4900 Hall class locomotive, “Lady of Legend” was completed in 2019 after decades of dedication by the Great Western Society. The locomotive represents not just the revival of a lost class, but a living, working link to Edwardian railway engineering excellence.
