Locomotive Histories
GWR 14XX 1450
Built in 1935 at Swindon Works, the 14XX Class was designed for light branch line and auto-train services throughout the Great Western Railway network. No. 1450 is one of the few surviving examples of this popular class, famous for its appearances on quiet rural lines and its starring role in TV and film. Lovingly preserved, 1450 still operates on heritage lines, delighting visitors with its charming proportions and authentic GWR branch line character.
GWR 57XX 7714
One of the most iconic GWR tank engines ever built, the 57XX Pannier Tanks were the backbone of the GWR’s shunting and light freight work. No. 7714 was built in 1930 at GWR’s Swindon Works and spent decades working across the network until withdrawal in the 1950s. Rescued from Barry Scrapyard, 7714 was restored to working order and remains a firm favourite at heritage railways like the Severn Valley Railway, where it recreates the classic sights and sounds of GWR industrial and branch line working.
