Southern Power

from £15.00
Two Southern Railway locomotives power through Wilderness Crossing on the Swanage Railway during the 2025 Spring Gala.

The leading locomotive the only example of a K-Class locomotive on the preservation scene. When 31806 was built in the 1920s she was a K-Class tank. However, due to a accident 31806 was rebuilt as a U-Class mogul in 1928. The locomotive spent most of its life around Guildford, Basingstoke and Nine Elms before retiring in 1964. She initially came back into steam on the Mid-Hants Railway in the 1980s before moving to Swanage in 2014.
The inside locomotive is an excellent example of a un-rebuilt Bulleid Light Pacific. Built in Brighton Works as 31806 was, 257 Squadron was allocated to the South East of England before electrification in the Kent area sent her to the South West of England. 257 Squadron was withdrawn in the same year as 31806 in 1964. The locomotive was returned to steam in 1990 and found a home at the Swanage Railway in 1992. She has moved around several railways, but currently resides on the Swanage Railway.
